Blue Jays Defeat Liberty North to Win District 15 Title

Liberty Wins Fourth Straight District Title

The Liberty Blue Jays boy's tennis team has become accustomed to winning District titles. On a hot and humid day at Bennett Park in Liberty the Blue Jays defeated crosstown rival Liberty North 5-0 to advance to the MSHSAA Class 2 Sectionals.

Liberty was led by senior Owen Mulcahy and junior TJ Cowger. They both finished the day undefeated in single and doubles action.  Mulcahy recently won his 100th career match and will go down as one of the most decorated tennis players in Blue Jay history.

It's been an impressive four year run for Liberty.

4X District Champs

2018 Central Invitational Team Champion
2018 Northland Invitational Team Champion

Head coach Andy Schneider discusses strategy with senior Owen Mulcahy.

"Tonight we really came out focused and ready to play in doubles. By having that approach it put us in a good position to only need two singles win to secure the victory. I’m really happy for our seniors to have the opportunity to win a conference and district championship in each of their four years of high school tennis," head coach Andy Schneider said. "I’m looking forward to seeing how the individual district tournament plays out. Hopefully we can get multiple people qualified for the state tournament."
