Three Class 5 District Finals are set

District Finals typically bring out high emotions and the 2017 MSHSAA baseball post-season looks to continue that tradition. Several games involving state ranked teams are on the docket this week. KCPrepReport gives you a breakdown of the four Class 5 Districts.
Liberty North (24-5) vs. Liberty (22-9)
May 16th @ Liberty High School, 5:00 p.m.
For the third time in four years this cross town rivalry will play each other in the District final. The Eagles have gotten the best of the season series winning two games (1-0 and 4-2). Liberty advanced to the title game behind Gibson Brown and his eight strike out performance in a 5-1 win over Kearney. Logan Steenstra was the offensive star of the game going 3-3 with 2 RBI’s.
Liberty North edged by Fort Osage 9-8 to claim their 4th straight District title game appearance. The state ranked Eagles are looking to capture their third straight district title.
Platte County (22-2) vs. Staley (24-6)
May 17th @ Platte County High School, 4:30 p.m.
An epic battle took place erlier this month when Platte County’s Justin Mitchell hit a walk off home run in extra innings to take down the Falcons 7-5. The talent rich Pirates boast seven players who are going to continue their baseball careers in college. Staley, seeking it’s fifth straight District title, was led to the finals on the arm of Missouri State commit Matt Russel. He hurled 6 1/3 innings of shut out baseball against St. Joe Central.
Lee’s Summit North (17-12) vs. Blue Springs South (17-12)
May 16th @Grain Valley High School, 5:00 p.m.
The Jaguars jumped on rival Blue Springs in the first inning of their semi-final contest and never looked back winning 11-5. Senior Mark Walker was the catalyst of a first inning barrage of runs when he smashed a grand slam to left field.
Lee’s Summit North opened up with a 10-7 win over host Grain Valley. The Suburban Big Seven champion Broncos jumped on State Fair CC commit Chaise McCord early scoring five runs in the first frame. The two teams split in their pair of games this year.
Class 5 District 13 semi-finals to be held today (May 17) at Lee’s Summit.
Lee’s Summit vs. Lee’s Summit West at 1:30 p.m.
Rockhurst vs. Raymore-Peculiar at 4:00 p.m.
